#ATOZCHALLENGE: G IS FOR THE GAMES
i ABSOLUTELY LOVED this show. the way one longs for the Olympics again after the third year of bowling repeats. but is Australian humor the same as British humor? or is there a distinction? we're about to find out. i mean i'll get to that later.
JOHN CLARKE IS A BEAST. the true Australian. Australian through and through. the man. the old man. the island general. tops in the field. not a master of satire but a master of snark. he is the greatest living Australian after Paul Hogan. but see, that's the thing. i never got into Crocodile Dundee in the '80s, that whole thing confused me. so Cajun Clarke is all i know. he's the greatest thing since (in order of how i experienced as a boy) my first best friend Brent, the boomerang, Neighbours, the Australian Open, Cheeky Minx, and Barbie dolls.
CLICK HERE FOR THE VERY FIRST AUSTRALIAN TRIUMPH
organization requires stern leadership that will get the thing done on time as planned. and blame it on the Australian deep state if it doesn't. at the end of it you will see just how insane putting on a Games is, how it cripples a city, and how no one understands. no one understands all these crazy exercises that require weird equipment and have made-up rules. cos the Games themselves are insane. the Greeks drank a LOT of nectar.
CLICK HERE FOR MATHS. WE SHOULD ALL ADOPT THE METRIC SYSTEM. METRIC IS A GOOD BAND
i always admired how the track underlooked the office.

CLICK HERE AND THIS IS NOT RACIST
CLICK HERE AND THIS DOES ADDRESS RACE, HOLLYWOOD, AND I THINK IT'S A PRESCIENT SWIPE AT MILLENNIALS
and of course the last image i remember before we had to say goodbye (until the next four years) was someone wearing the Australian flag as a onesie. or diaper or something. that one came from the advertising department.
i won't get into the whole plagiarism thing with Twenty Twelve cos i don't want to start another war between Britain and Australia. i know it's hard to admit but you must let them have this win, UK, they earned it.
DO I NEED TO PULL OUT THE BIT OF FRY & LAURIE AGAIN? OKAY, HERE
now that's a Freezeframe
and for Golf. Rickie Fowler? i mean, i guess. oh and special mention to Goosebumps and KATHARINE ISABELLE again. she blasted Robert De Niro himself one time at their film set. she wasn't gonna take shit from De Niro just cos he was a legend and she was an ingenue. that takes spunk, kid!

IT GROWS ON TREES
learned:
* that British accent, i simply must believe it if it's in that sonorous studious British lilt.
* Swiss spaghetti is better than Italian spaghetti but not as good as Chinese spaghetti. Chinese spaghetti is all.
* the only fortnight is Wimbledon. everything else is two weeks.
* did you know bees make honey? they don't just do sex with birds.
* late frost: my nickname in college
* buy local.
* spaghetti weevil: Ricky Gervais's nickname in college. he was still fat back then.
* it's a family affair, they're breeders, but it's not what you think.
* this is real. this is really happening. those boccalinos are filled with air.
* sundried tomatoes are a scam. just get the large red ripe plump juicy tomatoes, not the sacs.

happy weekend. let's go Rory! complete the Slam! if not Rory, Sergio! complete the Sergio Slam! which is one slam.
#ATOZCHALLENGE: F IS FOR FLIGHT 29 DOWN
Lost for kids. except i distinctly remember loving this show so much i wouldn't have tried Lost to begin with but for Flight 29 Down. and i would have lost out.

the singing in that opening while nostalgic gave me the chills as a kid. i mean as a teen. ominous. this show was my Saturday bastion, my chance to relax after another brutal week of high school. Discovery Kids was my pagan religion on a desert isle. back when there still was an intact Saturday-morning-cartoons industry.
yeah that series finale. first finale i got sad over and cried real salty ocean tears. cos the story wasn't complete. Hotel Tango. another big event at my house cept it was still the afternoon when it was broadcast so there wasn't time enough for me even to shower and i watched the whole thing dirty after soccer which was annoying. i literally had mud in my eye.
see it would have been interesting if this thing got another season where they explored the consequences of being rescued after being stranded for so long only thinking about the prospect of their grim deaths. even for that chipper little kid with the cap. i would have liked to see the school where they all came from on that ill-fated field trip. did it destroy or delay their dreams going forward? were the usual lines between jock and nerd, babe and wallflower, cheerleader and bunsen-beaker-eater, blurred? how would they interact with each other now that they were a forced family? did the cliques clash or crash? can a plane save?
that one scene reminds me of all the fun island games on Endurance, the greatest outside game show kid or adult ever. intense. fueled by sugary cereal. these two shows were often paired together on Discovery Kids. Saturdays used to be days you didn't sleep in on till noon. (Legends of the Hidden Temple was indoors.)

* Lauren Storm, not necessarily a porn name...
* every boy wanted to be Johnny Pacar. i know i did. Johnny didn't crack any coconuts but he had his choice of coconuts to fondle i can tell you that.
* i'm instagram-followers with Hallee Hirsh, Joker smile and all. loved her since the spunky daughter on ER (pronounced "er"). she now runs a nature commune with her husband and child. how great is that? more hippie farms, less nuclear arms i say.
* it's okay, i don't drive at all.
* now you know Jeremy Kissner has one of those faces. there's one of those in every school. that tropical rattan porkpie hat isn't just for show. it's where he stashes his ton of blunts.
* Corbin Bleu Cheese, my man with the cool Sideshow Bob fro, can i steal you a minute? bro, you can't marry Key lime pie, no matter what Pee-wee Herman says. you need to see that hot blonde Lauren Storm before she gets too big for you...
and for Fucked, Foreign Fighters, i mean Freezeframe. i just came up with this now. if the film of your life ended on a final freezeframe, what would that look like? what would you be doing or trying to say? like the freezeframe from Eternal Sunshine that gets caught on a glitch. mine? eyes closed. sleeping. cos i'd be dead. happy Friday.

#ATOZCHALLENGE: E IS FOR EVERWOOD
The WB. remember? we know drama. and boy was this a drama. this show was serious as fuck. each character spoke in stentorian Shakespearean tones reminiscent of Northern Exposure. the world would be a more interesting place if everyone spoke with such effervescent erudition. at least have our leaders be this way. hey Bannon, slip Donald a Mickey Spillane.
it avoided becoming completely cloying cos the characters were so earnest and likable. well except that smug doctor. the other doctor.
big-city doctor reTreats with his fam to the wilderness after tragedy to get away from it all and breathe in country air. Treat Williams, the best first name ever, all hunky and plaid Monty Python lumberjack:
WHEN YOU HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN COS YOUR ITCHY BEARD HASN'T BEEN CUT IN YEARS, CLICK HERE
Gregory Smith, the brooding emo teen EVERY SINGLE WOMAN in the world had their first jill-off to. i mean his name was Ephram, it doesn't get any more poetic. i remember reading a Tv Guide article where Gregory talked about the first years of the show and adjusting to worldwide megafame and how he stood outside a meet-and-greet kiosk at a mall one time next to a glossy standee of himself and everyone just walked past and didn't give a fuck. Gregory Smith is good people.
OMG folks CHRIS PRATT!!! now i'm not as enamored of the big soft squeezy lovable goofy teddy bear that is Chris Pratt as the world is, but i swear to you only TODAY did i realize that Starlord himself was on this show young. i mean i remembered his jock-with-the-heart-of-gold character, he definitely stood out, and i know Chris Pratt, but i never put the two of them together:
NOTE: THIS IS NOT HOW MOST FALSE IMPRISONMENTS GO, CLICK HERE
fuck that was hot. when a geek girl uses "shower" as code for "sex", you've got something.
the girlfriend. okay yeah well the girlfriend was annoying. hot can't erase ugly. and the grandma. all tv grandmas MUST be ballsy dames who ride hogs, have seen it all, tell it like it is, and use foul language. there is room only for idiosyncratic grandmas, no more mild grandmas who quietly knit and fucking tea.
and Vivien Cardone:
CLICK HERE AND LEAVE THE POOR GIRL ALONE
she made it, she avoided the curse of the child star, she grew up beautiful and has a boyfriend who serves her breakfast in bed, and she was on Law & Order. she's part of the honored acting community who get it. life is good. good for you, Vivien Cardone.
i do remember the finale. it was a big popcorn event. all the girls and i gathered round our sets with snuggies and trail mix. Ephram was gonna say or do something big with his girlfriend that would have life-changing consequences. i remember the thing dragging on for two hours. i don't remember what was said or done in the end. i only carry around in my head the lasting image of Ephram on top of a country-faire ferris-wheel or something, ruminating about life.
and then i realize this show was about a beloved wife and mother who died too soon and ghosts and memories you can never recapture and lonely nights in the wilderness, and the heartbreaking passage of time, and i feel sad. i finished up this post and was sad the rest of the day.
and for Elevator next time, buddy. poor Dustin Johnson.

THE ANGELS ARE BLUE THIS NIGHT: WINDOW
Mike Manley swerves his yellow porsche into a ditch as the rain begins to fall.
Mike: huh. the weather report did not call for rain. a million dollars and no windshield wipers. but there is a cup-holder, where i place my phone.
Mike places a call then bungles the drop back to the cup-holder and his phone leaves the slit in the window and goes into a puddle and sinks forever.
Mike: this is what happens when all you do is think about sex. dam. well i'll go to the usual rendezvous and hope for the best.
_________________________
Mike: why am i moving so slowly? it's like trudging through molasses. holy shit that water rose feet within minutes. street's a river. luckily my car has flippers. it transforms into a boat when needed. push of a button and there we go. streetlights are out. only light are intermittent flashes. just saw a generator float away. this ain't no storm. gotta get myself upstream. to a hill.
Mike: well this is proving more difficult. best i can do is any stream. any hill. i see a downslope. or is it the slope of a deer's nose. hold on, betsy, i named my cup-holder, this wreck is a raft and i hope those leaves down there are soft. i guess we're going downhill...
Mike: is everyone okay? i didn't hear a crash. i guess that's a good thing. i'm still massively horny. great, the door is broken, nice and easy. i left my weather phone in my other pants, these are my shagging pants. what's out yonder? the blue jacket has a hoodie but screw it. Taco Isle? fine. i love tacos. both meanings. it's always taco tuesday for me.
he makes his way over the collapsed bridge, through the slippery sign, and into the brick-and-mortar confines of the establishment. he pushes the ridged saloon door with the palm tree carving.
Mike: fancy taco stand you got here.
Maria: wow you're cute! i feel i should know you.
Mike: it only takes one night.
Maria: i'm too homely for you i'm sure.
Mike: a tad. but i'm already wet i don't care anymore. the rain has not cooled me down.
Maria: is it the glasses?
Mike: sure i'll take one. single malt whisky. actually make that a double malt whisky, i'm thirsty.
Maria: we only serve tequila from a parrot's beak. but there's a Starbucks after the motel.
Mike: i'm in need of a maltster to keep me from becoming a monster.
Maria: but you had a mother?
Mike: a hell of a one. what do you recommend?
Maria: what can i do for you? and please keep it about our clean menu.
Mike: oh. um, let's see. my vision is blurry. i'm not in the mood for something heavy and meaty. i like just the skin and bones.
Maria: our enchilada platter's 100 bucks.............who are you staring at?
Mike: ...
Mike: that vision behind the counter behind the deep fryer.
Maria: wow, nobody notices that Maria. cos she's uglier than me. even though she's the one who actually prepares the food you slobs eat. you must really be hungry!
Mike: ...
Mike: something has caught my eye. please turn around. i want to change my order. are you free later tonight?
Maria: ...but our salsas are free. what?
Mike: i'm loving this new trend in sex. girls wearing tight bluejeans and having their phones coming out of their butt pockets. it's the perfect way to call attention to their asses. all girls do this now. i'm getting hot. i would masturbate right here and now if i could.
Maria: knock yourself out. there's no one here. i've seen worse. they invented bermuda shorts for just this purpose.
Mike: oh. okay. well, now it's just weird. i'm staring cos you have a nice butt but i think the phone your butt is groping is nicer.
Maria: here. knock yourself out.
Mike: this is my phone! where'd you get this?
Maria: it washed up onshore when i took out the trash just now. it wasn't raining then.
Mike: doesn't work, though. waterproof my ass. at least it's not my work phone, that thing's a piece of shit. it's a wonder the company survives.
Maria: you have to connect it to a network. see? slide this slide.
Mike: thanks. still a tech newbie. can you show me how to send a text?
Mike: oh, there she is. send pickles? i gotta go.
Mike: wait. she's wanting the hot stuff.
Mike gathers four shallow plastic cups and fills each with a different level of hot at the salsa bar, green to red to orange to vomit color. and places a lime in another cup. and takes a tequila.
Mike: those are some cute spoons. what's the damage?
Maria: technically it's free. you just want the sauce?
Mike: wait! are those pickles i spy?!
Maria: sure. helps dull the pain.
Mike: i'll take two rotund glass bottles of your best pickles.
Maria: need a bag?
Mike: uh...no...i gotta go...i'll just carry one in each hand...
under the pouring rain
Mike: ...and try not to drop them into shards on the street. my grip is strong but these lids are thin. i feel my fingers locking into this vise shape permanently. where's that Starbucks!!? walking sucks!
at the Starbucks
Mike: Maria?
Maria: you read my nameplate. it's the green apron, better background.
Mike: you work two jobs?
Maria: the economy sucks.
Mike: the economy will always been terrible. hey you got that coffee that tastes malty cos of all the almonds in it?
Maria: not our brand.
Mike: a malted? a St. Patrick's Day green coffee?
Maria: that's McDonald's. and even if we did it would only be for one day. which is really not cost-effective at all.
Mike: mermaid toast? come on, if there's anyplace in the world that would serve mermaid toast it's here. that's as hipster internet-trendy as they come. i saw your sign out front.
Maria: the mermaid doesn't have bare breasts anymore. censor shells.
Mike: i'll take any food you have. stuff it all into this weave basket i found lying in the corner here.
Mike spots a naked woman on the roof of the Blue Roof Inn next door.
Mike: and give me my room key now, i'll pay for everything later.
Maria: how'd you now?
Mike: i don't have time, woman! i gotta go. this place has a heavy air to it. an air of decadent desperation.
at the motel roof:
Mike: got the supplies.
Ari: food at Starbucks?
Mike: almost slipped on the ladder coming up and broke my crown.
Ari: i hope to come after.
Mike: if i tumble you right. or you're a good tumblrina. or something, it's late. sunbathing?
Ari: of course. you like the roof terrace here? preparing for you. sorry for the misdirection but i have to change locations or we become too predictable. i brought the dress.
Mike: my mother's blue dress? how'd you get it?
Ari: you gave it to me, remember?
Mike: sorry, i'm not in the mood for the roleplaying. can we just get to it?
Ari: after a quick soak.
Ari showers, using the sheer curtain so her beautiful black silhouette of her perfectly-shaped body stands out like moonlight against the surrounding neon lights. she can be seen for miles. Mike sees her on his way back from the parking lot.
and one other man sees her. Ari's husband, who stares at his wife hopelessly staying in the family stationwagon and keeping the blinders up. he clutches the stick-shift and slides his fingers up and down, rolling on the ball top.
Ari: wow! thank you, Spicy Spaghetti. i needed that. you screwed me downtight. i needed to get fucked, there's a lot of tension in the air with the blackout. gotta go where there's light. i'd smoke with you but my cigs are damp. this seems like a hurricane.
Mike: my favorite part was ripping my mother's blue dress off your back. no offense but the whole time i pretended i was fucking my mom. that's why my cum was extra saucy.
Ari: all we are are our fantasies. my favorite part was finally mastering the lotus crow. i loved how you bent my legs over like that during the anal.
Mike: isn't yoga verboten spirituality?
Ari: my body is a temple and these are all forms of exercise. oh i'm getting a tension headache.
Mike: yes it is. usually that comes before.
Ari: nothing in the drawer. except this ghastly 13 Moon Calendar.
Mike: they've really moved on from the Gideon bible. i have a hash calendar at home, very scientific. aspirin paracetamol caffeine.
Ari: Excedrin?
Mike: Anadin. no manufactured medicines, remember?
Ari: oh shut up. coffee. did you get the coffee?
Mike: was i supposed to get coffee? best i can do for you, Siren, is a Tums Smoothie.
Ari: Siren?
Mike locks fingers with Ari as the two look up at the ceiling backs flat on their separate beds.
Mike: you don't need to feel guilty. all we are are two animals.

back at home
sons: mommy! mommy! thanks for the food! we were hungry! what exactly is fairy bread anyway?
Ari: oh dear lord. just swallow it down and we'll pretend it comes from a unicorn, that's less worse.
sons: we love the sprinkles.
Ari: my future gay ravers. here, honey, look what mommy plucked out for you at a motel garden.
little girl: pretty flowers. what are they called?
Ari: candytuft.
little girl: yeah! candy!
Ari: don't eat it, could have hallucinogenic properties.
Ari: hi, dear. *kiss*
husband: *kiss*
Ari: and look at this behind my back. wow i know. this is the light we were all searching for. it's called a christingle. it will shine on this family forever and keep us whole and holy.
sons and little girl: we love you, mommy! thanks for coming back! thank you for the food! we love you and kiss you sloppily and squeeze you and hug you tight.
Ari: oh my family. it's a pleasure. come in. *kiss* *hug* *squeeze* thank you for letting me be yours and thank the Dear Lord for letting you be mine.
little girl: mom, you're squeezing the cats too hard.
Ari: what the fuck?
husband: the cats started standing upright and sitting on our couches. they haven't gone to all fours since. they're locked in place.
#ATOZCHALLENGE: D IS FOR DA VINCI'S INQUEST
the Canadian Law & Order. but better. and that's saying something cos the first season with (Canadian) Stone at the helm of the mothership Law & Order is all-time classic. if L&O was the untouchables, Da Vinci's Inquest was film noir. i mean
TAKE IN THAT THEME, CLICK HERE
i wasn't looking at that naked body promise. it was gritty, hardnosed, street, and cutthroat. pure Canadian bacon. or Canadian steak. masterclass ensemble. i became addicted to Venus Terzo, the babe who did all those anime voices i found out later. you look at Nicholas Campbell, whose name escaped me for years, and he's not your typical Canadian nice guy. he has a grizzled, pocked face. he's like a Canadian after a few American beers. fascinating to watch. supreme actor along with legend Donnelly I KNEW HIM BEFORE GALACTICA!!! Rhodes, the Canadian Lennie Briscoe.
it was on really late (or early), like 3:30 am Sunday morning. i would take a nap after Saturday Night Live, another show that's basically Canadian.
i love this exercise cos i watch these trailers again after so many years and the memories come flooding back. remember that Canadian gangster film i was talking about? well that's this show. you wouldn't think there would be Canadian gangsters but apparently there are. one scene that comes to mind was a hotel with Dominic Da Vinci ready to get some from a hot blonde not his wife by a bed. i dunno, his awkward smile throughout made me smile. i went with it, let the Coroner have some flesh of his own.
two words: KATHARINE ISABELLE. you don't know what i've been through. i spent all morning imdbing like a madman trying to remember that name. yeah her and her best friend in life and movies EMILY PERKINS, both on the show and both on Ginger Snaps. watch Ginger Snaps NOW while eating ginger snaps and become a goth like me.
CLICK HERE FOR SOME HOT DRAMA
yeah the Emily Perkins character was asking for immunity or something if she gave the cop a blowjob. imagine that.
and then Dominic became Mayor and you knew the end was nigh...
also for Demarcation, let's all pray for Syria and hope something vital gets done yesterday. on a lighter note, Divot, here's to an exciting Masters, i wanna see 4 contenders on the back 9 this Sunday. but let us never be Distracted.

TMIT: PLAY ON WORDPLAYA
1. sex is_______ life. literally. and figuratively. 69. it's the only thing that matters. it has nothing to do with sex. it's pure power. it's why we're here. it pierces through religion and is the conduit to love. filthy and profane and messy. it's identity. it's what we search for and never find.
2. love is_________ the great betrayer. a sickness. an ephemeral entity that claims to be in a holy body. it's a rascal and a reigner, a mother and a murderer, a divine denier. lack of it causes great wars. lack of it sows division. it's the embodiment of the universe and as small as a pea's atom. it's impossible.
3. money is________ not evil but merely the root of all evil, inescapable iniquity more precious than blood, worth immorality for immortality, kingmaker and one president, Scrooge snack, more ill-gotten gains than a gym full of curling biceps, what we're left with as a love replacement, status sander, the enemy of art, single-handedly keeping the stripping industry alive. with an invisible hand. not a system but a reflection. we should have kept the barter system.
4. power is_______ sex. or rather sexual. never earned. always granted. misnomer of wealth. followers. never ends well cos it's always unlimited. a curse that gets things done. the ultimate hubris. the ultimate gold ring. inherited. like a virus. folly. fits like a nintendo glove. or a football glove. falling up. tart terrorism. on sticks. the ultimate makeup. an influencer video. when a man plays goddess and starts to tremble.
5. life is_______ a tree, an organic garden, a great film, not a space number but space itself, the boring answer to a complicated question, sapped after the santa reveal, trending downward, never meant to be, sip of happiness, rolling a boulder uphill on a flat geometric plane. and the boulder is really your head. all that there is so you better do something meaningful. showing who we really are. what we wanted on that space rock all those dreams ago. a rowboat. but never the water. insurance. tragic but after many years, funny. god's abandoned novel.
bonus: food is_______good

to be honest i don't remember this show. cept that it was about a cute spacey girl with glasses with a French name. Fleur or something. and that it was from New Zealand, which is just as cool as Canada. i discovered it while crosscountrying with my grandparents as we made a pit stop in a dusty Arkansas barn to visit our heretofore unknown country cousins. when the son got disappointed that i wouldn't be wingmanning him at the club that evening, he thought i was much older, i was older but inexperienced, they all retired for the night leaving me alone in the den with a deer blanket and a glowing tv. i saw the "Under the Bridge" video for the first time then i flipped to this strange quirk of a show. it was fascinating. i felt i was cheating, breaking the law, watching something verboten from illegal cable that was never meant for American eyes. it was awesome enough. it was Degrassi with accents (i'm not sure how Zealanders pronounce the word sorry). it was that HBO show Dream On without the carpet nudity. yeah i could only watch the first part of that one episode, i had to ride my bike in the morning across a dusty cornfield trail for the experience, but it would have been nice to see how the whole thing concluded. i'm sure she graduated and snagged her dream boy. they don't want to get into the messy future, i understand, it's for teens. the three kids, divorce, college. in that order.
dating is a shame. like take that promo trailer. i get it, you're working on the show and Moulin Rouge, the Star Wars reissues, wrestling, Titanic, the Leo Romeo + Juliet, and The Matrix are all the rage. you're not thinking about how horribly dated this stuff will be later. and Gone with the Wind is always relevant i guess, even the porno of it. you're living only in the present moment, which is a good place to live.
also for BYU cos think about it, if Gonzaga wins tonight BYU is the best team in the country cos they were the only ones to beat the Zags this year.

#ATOZCHALLENGE: A IS FOR AARON STONE
i don't watch Mech-X4. i've long since run out of time. but from the ads i see similarities to Disney XD's first foray into live-action, Aaron Stone, which was good and made the burgeoning channel and got canceled before its time. or maybe i had a clearer head back then cos it was pre-Instagram and i still had a life and breathing room. there's something about these singularly Canadian sci-fi shows, the high schools and the skies are always dark, and the babes are unique. take Tania Gunadi. she has an accent to her voice that no one else on Earth has, her lilt is like this global conglomeration of all languages, she's the multicultural personification of unity we so desperately need now. and then there was the blonde enemy chick whom i later saw naked in a Canadian gangster film but hey that's why i love Canada. if i have to move there, so be it. it dealt with blurring the line between the virtual video-game world and reality, which is all but Oculused in the present troubling age. it was kid cyberpunk. i mean i remember the manic robot baldie from ER during the golden decade of television! Disney, mostly known for insipid manufactured sanitized comedy patter, was trying to show it could do "a boy's show", too, and it worked. i knew as i got hooked that my heart would be broken cos these types of shows are ridiculously pricey to produce so they need a massive audience to justify them and it just never happens. but i will always fight for story over sitcom. but hey, more romance less splosions i say if you're worried about cost. i seem to have expensive tastes for a starving artist. the story never quite completed and baity talks of a movie or something never materialized. but it was harmless innocent fun while it lasted. Aaron Stone, the last time i had lazy Sundays and lazy summers and could while away the days with "boyish" superhero dreams.
also for Acetone cos i think i need to rinse out my teeth. i gargled and spilt out blood this morning. that's not good. no more Pepsodent and Mocha Mix for me. nostalgia can only take you so far.
PPS i'm sure the bettors aren't happy that the basketball games are being played on April Fools' Day...but the NCAA does not condone betting...
